The Centre
This project is an initiative of the Order of Preachers (DOMINICANS) Province of St. Joseph the Worker, Nigeria and Ghana. It is a response to the challenges of preaching the good news of Jesus Christ in African environment where hunger and poverty diminish the human dignity and make the people vulnerable to every kind of misleading values and false religion. Poverty reduction, job creation and youth development programmes become our new focus.
Who are the Dominicans?
The Order of Preachers ﴾DOMINICANS﴿ is an International Catholic Religious Order founded by Spanish born St. Dominic de Guzman in 1216, after whom the Centre is named. Our mandate is evangelization to all especially the poor ﴾LCO 98﴿and we work in all the continents of the world. The province of Nigeria and Ghana has Apostolate in over eight states in Nigeria and in Kumasi, Ghana. We work and preach the gospel of the truth, justice and peace as well as reach out to victims of injustice and respond to cases of human right abuses.
Background Philosophy
It is obvious that we have enormous problems in our days in Nigeria and the rest of Africa, perhaps a crisis. The African soil that was once the cradle of human civilization is today ravaged by hunger, unemployment, energy crisis, rising waves of violence and crime, environmental pollution and disaster. We have to painfully realize that authentic evangelization in Africa todaywould, of necessity include offering the people food and water and formal education. Mindful that in our changing world, our preaching has to be relevant and awakening hope, the centre is own contribution towards poverty reduction, job creation, youth and community development and the enhancement of the dignity of the human person in Nigeria.
Our Mission Statement
The centre is committed to a viable and sustainable socio-economic and religious entrepreneurship that will empower the poor and seek to promote success-driven training programmes that have the capacity of harnessing the natural and human resources of beneficiaries and translate them into a culture of self-reliance.
Our Vision
Our vision is to develop a sustainable, efficient and cost-effective production and processing system that would impact positively on the lives of rural communities and at the same time enhances our environment such that we recycle and revalorize dispersed energy.
